Lose Weight Faster

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Sara Bilden Losing weight is one of Americas top problems. It seems like we all need to lose weight at one point or another in our lives and it is one of the hardest things to do. I know I have struggled to lose weight after having children and sometimes it seems like Im all alone in my struggles. When I want to lose weight I want it gone yesterday. I wasnt ways to lose weight faster. When you have weight to lose it seems like it is so easy to single out all the skinny people. The ones we all love to hate. Why do they have it so much easier? Or maybe its that they have found little ways to make it easier. I have found over the years that there are many ways to lose weight. None of them easy but along the way Ive picked up some weight loss tips that I would like to share. These are things that I have found to be helpful when I have been dieting. One I learned from my sister. She and I seem to be alike in many ways and one of them is the mindless eater. We like to eat in front of the TV. We like to eat while we are talking on the phone. We like to eat while we are on the computer. One way to cut this nasty little habit is to start a journal. A food journal. It is easier not to put something in your mouth when you make yourself write it down in a journal. Then you are forcing yourself to make a mental note of everything that you put in your mouth. This food journal can become a very helpful tool to lose weight faster. One more tip that I have found helpful is to rethink my pantry and the way I shop for groceries. I used to go to the grocery store and just throw in whatever I knew my husband and kids like to eat. I knew that that was detrimental to my diet, but I felt like if I didnt keep some of those things on hand for them it wasnt fair to them. Now instead of throwing whatever I think they may like in the cart, I am very choosy about their snacks and junk food. For example: I know that we all like snacks like chips. My husband and kids love chips and salsa and I am not very likely to sit down and eat them. I know that the only time I ever eat chips and salsa is in a Mexican restaurant. So instead of throwing in chips or popcorn that I would eat along with them I choose the chips and salsa that they will like and I wont eat. Now I choose snacks that I know my family will like but I would not eat, thereby eliminating one more temptation from my cupboard. These are just two of the ways that I have found that can help the average person lose weight faster. The key to weight loss is determination and we can all use a healthy does of encouragement too. Get yourself a diet buddy and try these tips together. Aithor Sara Bilden writes on a variety of topics. 6 Great School Friendly Ideas for Your Restaurant Marketing

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Ian Macdonald This is very beneficial for the entire community and is also lots of fun. It not only makes the children aware of your restaurant, but also every parent and teacher. By promoting to and assisting a school close to your restaurant, it shows that you are a responsible corporate and caring member of your community. You are getting the restaurant’s name and credibility out to areas of your community that might not otherwise be aware of you. Here are some ideas to consider: 1. Reward Outstanding Effort I am not just talking about good grades. The very best students generally always do well. I believe it is important to reward a student that has really excelled according to their capability. Talk to the Headmaster/mistress and teachers and get them to nominate students according to effect and diligence. You can offer free meals, deserts or even parties. You can also issue certificates. 2. Sponsor School Activities All schools have different academic programs and sports teams and other extra-curricular activities that need sponsors. They often have to travel long distances. You will probably even be asked to join in as a volunteer giving you further opportunities to connect with people and businesses from your local community. 3. Do a Cooking Show at the School This can be educational and lots of fun. You can include any of your cooks or other staff too. Get teachers and students to participate on stage. Make things that are fun and colourful, where you can incorporate some nutrition, food and safety information. 4. Form a Strategic Alliance With Another Business And Share the Profits with the School You can form a partnership with another retail store or even another restaurant. Then you get students to distribute coupons to family, parents, co-workers and neighbours. For every coupon that is redeemed at the restaurant, a percentage (maybe 10 or 20%) of their purchase will go back to the school. It is great for increasing business for slow times. 5. Sponsor Funding The Purchase of a Piece of Equipment Schools are always after more equipment, books or sports uniforms. Your customers can join in too! Some of them might have kids going to that school next year! 6. Coupon Fund-Raisers Try to get as many opportunities to participate in these as possible. Schools generally sell coupon books to raise many for all sorts of needs. Your involvement is a great source of advertising without the normal expense. Look for other opportunities that are presented from time to time. Relationship Advice: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Jeff Herring When problems develop, it’s natural for couples to wonder if they should get out of a relationship. In my experience, many people are a little to quick to get out, when they could learn a lot by working on the relationship and working things out. Many people mistakenly think that if they get out of a relationship, then their problems are solved and they can move on. Geographical relationship cure I call this a geographical relationship cure. Just because you change who you are with, all your problems will not be solved. Usually the opposite happens. If you don’t deal with the essential issues that damaged the relationship, it’s quite likely those same issues will pop up in the next relationship. You may choose a completely different package, but the contents will be very similar. A stinking analogy An analogy would be not to bathe for a week, and then put on fresh clothes in hopes that the clothes will solve the problem. The clothes may be brand new, but eventually they are going to stink too. Some important issues to consider here would be: Have you kept your commitments, both to your partner and tothe relationship? Have you done all you said you would do? What kind of influence are you on your partner? Are they better off as a result of being with you? It sometimes comes down to the Ann Landers question: “Are you better off with or without this person?” Visit http://www.SecretsofGreatRelationships.com for tips and tools for creating and growing a great relationship. How to Keep Your Guest List Under Control

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Lillian Hammond Your wedding is soon approaching and you are wondering who you should invite, who you must invite and who you may invite. You have found your wedding dress, your wedding flowers, your bridesmaid dresses and you are wondering who to invite to the ceremony. The food and drinks bill usually account for most of your budget but if you want to cut down on your costs, the most effective way would be to cut down on your guest list. But how to decide on who to invite and who not to invite. It is not as hard as it seems, if you follow these simple steps: 1.Decide on your budget for the food and drinks bill and work out the number of people you will need to invite to meet this budget. 2.Agree with your fianc, on the number of guests on your side and on his side. 3.Draw up your list and then allocate a specific number of people to each set of parents (this way you are letting them make the hard decisions about which aunt to invite or which uncle not to invite. 4.You can decide not to invite any children and inform your guests about your “no children” policy. 5.You can decide to invite single guests on their own, especially if they don’t aren’t in a serious relationship. 6.Think of inviting relatives who you have a close relationship with rather than everyone that is related to you. 7.You can cross off, people who will not be offended if they are not invited to your wedding. 8.Invite only people who are important to you and your parents rather than everyone you know. If you want to find out more on saving costs on your wedding and how you can save on any wedding item, go to my website on: www.yourweddingforless.co.uk Lillian organised her own wedding on a budget of 5000 pounds. She spent 6 months prior to her wedding researching vendors, comparing products and prices; meeting with photographers; hotel managers; and many more wedding vendors to understand how she could save on each wedding item. Critical Positioning Secret - Congruency

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Sant Qiu Would you pay a Hugo Boss suits price to get a G2000 suit? I think it is a pretty common sense answer. Unfortunately, nowadays common sense is pretty uncommon; especially in business. In their bid to frantically create a meaningful difference for their businesses in a razor-sharp competitive market; many companies forget the most basic common sense such as: Congruency. Congruency is not only critical to create and build a powerful positioning and brand, but without it your company is built on a wobbly foundation that can give way any second. Without it you are sabotaging your own business! Heres a powerful and clear example:Recently I read in my national newspapers, the closure of a restaurant that had opened barely 10 months ago amidst much fanfare and a blitz of publicity. berburgerwhose claim to fame was its reputed USP of being Singapores first gourmet burger restaurant, was also featured in the media for its signature $101 prime wagyu beef burger. In fact, the $101 wagyu burger was part of their branding. Almost every time they were featured in the media, the $101 wagyu burger would be mentioned. So in simple terms, their positioning is: Singapores first gourmet burger restaurant. And they have 2 distinct factors going for them namely: 1. The word ber of berburger comes from the German language that means super. So their name essentially means superburger, which is supportive of their claim of a gourmet burger restaurant. 2. Their signature dish is a premium $101 wagyu burger. The extravagant price of the burger also supported the gourmet restaurants image. BUT When you arrive at the place, you would be surrounded in what would seem to be a typical American diner filled with a big screen TV tuned to the ESPN channel, plastic chairs and bright lights. An absolutely jarring contradiction of the positioning they were trying to create! Shocking incongruity! Do you expect to go to a gourmet burger restaurant, paying premium prices, expecting superburgers only to sit on plastic chairs? You see, positioning and any other marketing activities are about the perception created in the minds of the prospects. Unfortunately, the dcor as described above connotes cheap. Frankly, they also look uncomfortable to sit in. A while ago, my wife asked me to try the place out after we finished a meeting nearby the restaurant. We walked passed the place and saw the interior from the outside, and I decided to go elsewhere. I remembered thinking that some of favorite casual dining restaurants seemed like a much better place to dine. In fact, one diner who ate at berburger once even commented that the place was like an American diner instead of a gourmet burger place. Perception is an extremely powerful force. Generally, if it is expensive, we will expect it to be exclusive, luxurious, comfortable, great-looking and all the other characteristics attached to luxury. Consumers nowadays think nothing of digging into their deep pockets to patronize high-end places like these and enjoy the experience of tasting gourmet food. The question is Do they want to? If they do, they will be expecting to be pampered. And that is just plain common sense, isnt it? Let me ask you again: Would you be willing to pay a Lamborghinis price for a Nissan? The answer is pretty obvious. Invite Dora the Explorer to Your Party!

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Gail Leino Parents of kids who love watching Dora the Explorer on Nickelodeon should definitely think about having a Dora the Explorer party for their kids next birthday. Those of you who dont quite remember who Dora is, shes a preschool aged little girl who lives in the jungle with her family. Dora lives in a Latin American country and likes to go on many quests with her friends. Friends of Dora include Boots, a monkey who wears red boots, and occasionally her cousin Diego. Other characters in the series are Swiper, a fox who steals clues from Dora so she has trouble completing her quests, her purple backpack which gives her all the supplies she needs, and her mami, papi and abuela. You can usually find plenty of party supplies featuring a Dora the Explorer theme. Many kinds of kits are available. They include items like plates both larger plates for serving and smaller dining plates, cups, table covers, and streamers. One kit can lightly decorate two table areas. However youll need accents like balloons and banners, or even a party entertainment item like a themed Piata, which can fit the Latin American theme of a Dora the Explorer party quite well. Other more interesting kinds of decorations include inflatable and self-inflating ornaments. A good self-inflating ornament of Dora atop a birthday cake is usually popular for young kids parties. If you want you can look for Dora themed party favors to give out. Temporary tattoos, key chains and cone hats can easily be found in the appropriate party theme. There are also plastic loot bags out that you can place your party favors in along with some candy treats for the kids. Some of the dominate colors in the Dora the Explorer show are green, light purple, yellow and red. If you want to search out other appropriately colored decorative items for the party be sure to look in this vein. How To Move Past The Pain Of A Break-Up And Chose Better Next Time

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Christine Akiteng When people come to me to work on breaking their pattern of bad relationships they are usually still angry and resentful towards the person they just broke up with and they have so many not-so-nice things to say about the other jerks, losers and bitches who broke their hearts. Many of them dont like it when I tell them You are not a victim, you were a willing participant”. You see, in negative bonding patterns there are no victims since everyone is playing their well rehashed role. Each partner seeks out the other to engage in this dance of self-destruction. Its like your radar goes.whhhhzzz..zap! This is the one. Part of breaking free of this pattern is seeing the people you attract for who they really are and embracing (not forgiving which indicates something being right or wrong) their role in drawing you to the opportunity to learn what you need/needed to learn. When you can move away from blaming (which is just another way of you distracting yourself from what you are really feeling deep inside - lonely, insecure, unaccepted, unappreciated etc), and gain deeper insights to how you chose the people who bring more of what you don’t want into your life, you are more able to choose better next time round. Here is a good exercise to help you shift from blaming and anger to insight and embracing. Ask yourself these questions and answer them with an open mind. Its only by being honest with yourself that you can get to the truth. 1. What is the lesson I need to learn regarding this person/experience? 2. Why have I attracted this person/situation into my life? 3. What is the role they are playing/played to fulfill their own part in the negative bonding contract? 4. What is the aspect of myself that this person is reflecting back to me (this can be showing you something about you that you deny / or don’t realize youre doing, validating a belief or self fulfilling prophecy you have or showing you a quality you have to develop)? 5. What is the gift this person(s) is giving me by playing his/her role (the gift is the lesson(s) learned)? 6. Can I accept the role and actions the other person has played in helping me to learn this lesson? How do I do that or how am I doing that? 7. Can I allow myself to let go of any anger towards the other person playing the role that has helped me learn this lesson? How do I do that or how am I doing that? Keep in mind that “allowing” has nothing to do with reaching out, advising or helping him/her. This is about allowing the other person follow their chosen path and discover on their own the consequences of their choices. Go over your answers with a very close confidant. It helps (it’s necessary) to talk to another person with more objective input. However, chose your confidants carefully, the other person’s own “issues” may interfere with the whole process. He/she may start injecting his/her own pain from his/her own experiences into the situation instead of helping you through yours. Whatever you do, dont remain locked in blaming and feeling like a victim. The endless thoughts that you spin around your pain and hurt, and the energy you pour into complaining and other misdirected activities dulls your awareness of your own choices, robbing you of opportunities to gain deeper insight and choose better partners. Labeling a Student

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Linda Weaver Clarke Teachers have a great responsibility. They are not only teaching young minds, but they are shaping the future. Who knows if just one student in their class might become the next senator or a George Gershwin who was the king of jazz, men who made life a little better for all of us? The sad thing is that some teachers dont seem to take the time to understand their students and help them to learn, just because some of the children may be difficult. A young fifteen-year-old boy received excellent grades, but his teacher didnt understand him and was not willing to, either. The teacher felt the young man was disturbing the class and was a troublemaker. Because the teacher was not interested in getting to know his student, he demanded the boy leave school because his presence disturbed the other students. Albert Einstein, a great physicist, quit school because of a teacher. I was told about a young classmate whom the teacher had labeled dummy, simply because he was slow. The students soon picked up on it and the boy lived with this label until he left school. He didnt really try hard to get good grades because of the stigma that was placed upon him. How would he have turned out if the teacher had labeled him something positive? What if he was labeled as one who really tries, one who can create with his hands, or one who is kind to others? This student might have grown up with a better attitude toward school, wanting to excel in life. He may have become an asset to the community if it werent for someone demeaning his character. Teachers should not label their students and degrade them in front of their peers. Once he or she is labeled, its a stigma that stays with him until something changes. Name-calling, labeling, and demeaning only hold a student back from a greater future. In my novel, Melinda and the Wild West, I included one of my own experiences as a substitute teacher in which an eight-year-old student had been labeled as a troublemaker by her teacher. The students had listened to the teacher and steered away from her, not wanting to be her friend. This not only made her feel degraded, but she wanted to fight back and she did. She stopped doing schoolwork, refused to be part of the class, and got into a few fights. She seemed angry at the world but after working with her for a while, I soon learned what a sweet and wonderful child she was. She had characteristics that I was impressed with. When she realized that I really cared, she was willing to do her work, just to please me. When I wrote a note to her mother, telling her what a wonderful child she was, her mother came to me with tears in her eyes as she tried to express her gratitude for this little scribbled note. In turn, I tried to control the tears that stung my eyes, not wanting to show my emotions. Ill never know how this young girls life turned out, but in my novel I chose a happily-ever-after ending, just because a new teacher cared and made a difference in the girls life. I wonder how many teachers have made a difference in a students life simply because they cared? Long ago, I remember a Student Teachers praise that taught me to love English. This teacher made a difference in my life, simply because she cared. Teachers should be the first to praise a students efforts and show they really care. I hope all teachers realize they are in a position to make a difference in someones life. If I can stop one heart from breaking,I shall not live in vain;If I can ease one life the aching,Or cool one pain,Or help one fainting robinUnto his nest again,I shall not live in vain.–Emily Dickinson Copyright 2006 Linda Weaver Clarke has written a historical/fiction/romance novel, Melinda and the Wild West, published by American Book Publishing.
